Station House Update

Conceptual drawing of the Station House at Wickham Market rail station (at Campsea Ashe)

It was this time last year we told you about an ambitious plan by a small group of die hard volunteers determined to restore the station house at Wickham Market rail station (at Campsea Ashe).

The group has come a long way in the past 365 days and their plan to transform the station building for the benefit of the surrounding villages is a step closer to reality.

Station House Community Connections Ltd, a charitable Community Benefit Society, has been formed to allow the group to fund-raise, commence trading in order to sustain activities, and reinvest proceeds into the project. More than £131,000 toward a £500,000 goal has been raised which will ultimately see the station house fitted out with facilities which will enable it to become a hub for local residents and businesses.

Plans call for meeting rooms, a cafe, community room, rooms for hire, a book and map room, and WiFi access. Rail passengers will also benefit as the group is working with train operator Abellio Greater Anglia to integrate real time information screens, a ticket machine, and waiting room into the project.

A new conceptual video showcases the plans:
